On September 25, 2014, the first-ever CGIAR Development Dialogues event, organized with participation and support from all CGIAR Research Centers and Programs, will take place in New York City, focusing global attention on the vital role of agriculture, livestock, forestry, fisheries, landscapes, and food systems in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The event will gather an invitation-only audience of 250 participants, with thousands more expected to participate online through live webcasting and social media channels. The program includes high-level panel debates among leading scientists, Heads of State, prominent private sector players, philanthropic organizations, and prestigious academic institutions, as well as interactive break-out sessions across four main themes:

Theme 1: Prosperous, food secure, and resilient livelihoods

Theme 2: Healthier, innovative, capable, and inclusive communities

Theme 3: Efficient agriculture technologies for sustainable intensification

Theme 4: Climate change-resilient agro-ecosystems

The event will take place alongside several other important conversations on global development in New York that same week: the UN General Assembly, the meeting of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, and the UN Climate Summit. Designed to be a yearly event, the Dialogues offer an opportunity to leverage the global attention of world leaders by informing policy and helping to shape research and development for tomorrow’s food systems, landscapes and rural economies.
